Room 5 have celebrated Maori Language Week by creating this video, showing our learning with basic questioning. As you can see, we are still working on our correct pronunciation, however, the students had a very positive attitude to the task - tino pai Ruma Rima!

Think Right, Dream Big!
Think Right, Dream Big! was a pilot programme, implemented by Tiran O'Hagan from Wairarapa District Health Board, to fulfill the need for a programme for our Senior Boys. The programme was based around the LEADER acronym:
L for leadership
E for equipper
A for attitude
D for dreamer
E for excellence
R for relationships
The boys graduated at a recent assembly, and the photo below shows them with Tiran.

To show their thanks to Tiran, the boys shared a spine tingling haka, a great example of the leaders that they are developing into. Apologies though, as the memory card filled up half way through! :(
Dance 4 Asthma
The girls in Room 5 are real groovers! and I have been looking out for opportunities for them to show their skills.
The Dance 4 Asthma competition was a great opportunity for the girls. They had to create a dance to the Moorhouse song "Mama Said".
Congratulations to Jacob, Trystan, Henry and Josh who signed up for the final performance.

Young Leaders Day 2014
Today the year 8's travelled to Wellington to participate in the National Young Leaders Day conference. Students listened to inspiring speakers such as Jamie Fitzgerald from the TV programme First Crossings. The theme of the day was 3D: DREAM, DARE, DEVELOP. The students will continue to work on this theme back at school - watch out for their upcoming presentations. The photos below show us looking good in our 3D glasses around Wellington and no, the year 8's do not all fit in a telephone box, but it was fun trying! A big thanks to Karla Matthews for joining us for the day and to the BOT for funding such a worthwhile experience for our school leaders.

What's the commotion in the ocean?
Our recent trip to the Island Bay Marine Education Centre was a fantastic start to our Inquiry Unit, where throughout the term we will be investigating the question: "What is the commotion in the ocean?"
